A Much Needed Win

The Huskers locked down a much needed win against a tough North Texas team in overtime last Sunday. The Huskers were able to play as a team and find themselves on the field which hasn’t been such an easy task this season being such a young talented team. The last time the Huskers played North Texas was down in Mean Green Territory in 2010 in which they lost 12-4.

Senior Jon Christie (Papillion-La Vista, NE) tacked on 3 goals and 2 assist during the game, one of Christie’s goals ended the game in overtime after two hard-fought minutes of team defense on both sides of the ball. Freshman Chris Browne (Chaparral High School / Parker, CO) recorded 3 points in his second career collegiate game after joining the team only two weeks ago. Nebraska altogether was able to post 11 points against UNT from six different freshmen. Freshman attackman, Jack Walsh (Evanston Township / Evanston, IL) and midfielder, Tom Gillan (Pius X / Lincoln, NE) with 2 goals a piece.

Freshman face-off midfielder, Mason Adams (Lincoln East / Lincoln, NE) was able to win face-offs which set up key goals throughout the game. One of the Adams face-off wins lead directly to a transition fast break goal.

Senior Matt Molinelli had a huge part in the Cornhusker win saving 12 shots. He was also able to use is stick skills as an attackman, threading hard passes to breaking midfielders after the saves allowing the Huskers to capitalize on transitions.

Although, the Huskers had a great game against UNT they lost their first conference game against Kansas on Saturday. With over a month before their next conference game against Missouri, the Huskers will be traveling to Boulder, CO to play some top MCLA competition. Starting with an unranked but very good New Hampshire team, followed by Colorado and Clemson (ranked 10th and 15th in the nation in the most recent poll).

Scrimmage vs Wyoming

The scrimmage previously scheduled for Friday at 8:00pm has been pushed back to 9:00pm. We are sorry for the inconvenience and the late notice. The club sports department notified us earlier this week with the change. Sunday’s game against Missouri S & T will remain unchanged.

We hope to see you all there at 9:00pm at the Cook Pavilion.

Note: If you were planning on attending the Missouri S & T vs Wyoming scrimmage, that scrimmage may be changed and we will keep you posted on this as well.
